M•CON Underground is proud to announce the successful completion of Cell #8 at the City of St. Joseph, MO Government landfill. This large-scale earthwork project involved the excavation of 7.2 acres, moving nearly 425,000 yards of shale and rock across a demanding site. Our crew placed and tested 35,000 yards of a 2-foot-thick clay liner to ensure environmental compliance and long-term integrity — then completed the build by installing 16,000 tons of sand and 400 feet of 8-inch leachate collection pipe at the base of the cell. Each step was executed with precision, teamwork, and a commitment to quality.
This project stands as a testament to the strength, expertise, and dedication of the M•CON Underground team. Working in close partnership with the City of St. Joseph, we’re grateful for the opportunity to contribute to a project of this scale and community importance. From planning to execution, the work demanded both technical skill and a strong collaborative effort — and the result speaks for itself.
Project Highlights
Large-Scale Excavation: The Cell #8 project required moving nearly 425,000 cubic yards of dense shale and rock across a 7.2-acre footprint — a significant earthwork undertaking executed safely and on schedule using M•CON’s experienced equipment operators and project management team.
Environmental Liner System: Environmental compliance was central to the project. M•CON placed and tested 35,000 yards of compacted 2-foot-thick clay liner, providing a reliable containment barrier to protect groundwater and meet all regulatory requirements for the municipal landfill cell.
Leachate Collection System: To complete the cell build-out, 16,000 tons of sand were installed along with 400 linear feet of 8-inch leachate collection pipe at the base, ensuring long-term operational integrity and proper drainage management throughout the life of the landfill cell.
Our team showed up every day with determination, grit, and a commitment to excellence. From operators to project managers, every person played a key role in keeping the job moving safely and on schedule. Their professionalism, work ethic, and pride in what they do are what make projects like this possible. We’re incredibly proud of the crew that brought Cell #8 to life.
